Utility Line completes high-power electric vehicle charging hub for Ionity at Cove Road
Published: 29 October 2024
Project overview
Group company Utility Line, a leading provider of infrastructure solutions for the energy sector, recently completed a new high-power electric vehicle (EV) charging hub for Ionity at Cove Road, Fleet in Hampshire.
This project aligns perfectly with Utility Line's commitment to supporting the development of a sustainable future, and our expertise in electrical infrastructure and civil works made us the ideal partner for Ionity's expansion plans in the UK.
Reliable and accessible EV charging infrastructure is vital to address range anxiety, a key barrier to mass adoption of electric vehicles. This project demonstrates Utility Line's capabilities in delivering a full turnkey solution that meets the needs of our clients.
The solution
The Cove Road project involved a comprehensive range of works to establish a state-of-the-art charging hub:
- Full turnkey: Full civils build, from air circuit breaker (ACB) to on-site electric vehicle charging point installation, including new tarmac surface, white lining and block paving around low-voltage panels and package substation.
- Electrical infrastructure: Installation of low-voltage feeder pillars, cabling and associated equipment to power the chargers.
- Chargers: Installation of twelve 350 kW ABB chargers, each capable of delivering high-speed charging capabilities to electric vehicle drivers.
- Drainage: Construction of an attenuation tank and pump system to manage rainwater run-off and prevent flooding.
- Ongoing maintenance: Establishment of a long-term maintenance contract to ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of the charging hub.
Outcome and results
The successful completion of the Cove Road project represents a significant milestone in Ionity's expansion plans. The new charging hub provides EV drivers with a convenient and efficient option for recharging their vehicles during their journeys.
By offering high-power charging capabilities, Ionity is contributing to the wider adoption of electric vehicles and helping to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable transportation future.
Furthermore, this project showcases Utility Line's comprehensive approach to delivering electric vehicle infrastructure solutions.
