How do we treat hazardous waste?
The treatment of hazardous waste involves changing its physical, chemical, or biological characteristics to make it safe for disposal by recovering as many elements as possible.
We use physical and physico-chemical treatments to separate the liquids and solids so that each element can be handled in the best way.
The hazardous component is usually oil, so in both bulk liquid and packaged waste we use a three-phase separation process to separate as much of the oil, aqueous phase and solids as possible. Non-hazardous liquids can then be discharged as per our discharge consent via sewer or disposed of appropriately and the oil is sent for reprocessing.
Waste containing heavy metals or other soluble contaminants undergoes a further process of dilution or flocculation treatment to convert the toxins into a sludge ready for safe disposal.
Understand the law
You are accountable for ensuring your waste is disposed of compliantly right through to final destruction or recycling. Even after it has left your site and irrespective of the number of parties in the subsequent chain of custody, you continue to be liable should something go wrong.
It is therefore your responsibility to choose a reputable and reliable waste carrier that understands UK waste regulations and the need to treat hazardous waste with care.
Our commitment
We do things the right way, recovering, reusing, and recycling as much as possible, as per the waste hierarchy. This includes the transfer of waste to European incineration plants to generate energy.
