Storage tank installation at RAF Innsworth
Published: 21 August 2020
The project
Adler and Allan won a design and build contract for a new petroleum, oils and lubricants (POL Point) facility at RAF Innsworth barracks in Gloucestershire. Adler and Allan were first called to action at the site to clean and remove the existing underground storage tanks and install a new tank, pumps and fuel monitoring system.

The solution
The first job for Adler and Allan’s oil tank installation staff was cleaning the existing storage tanks and then safely removing them from the site. A soil analysis was carried out to establish if there was any contamination detected in the area prior to the construction of the new tank area.
The site was fully excavated before a reinforced concrete hard-standing area was built, together with a drainage system and new fuel separator installation. Adler and Allan had specified a new 50,000 litre fully bunded tank, which was installed and positioned for dual-sided fuelling.
Four new dispensing pumps were installed, alongside a fuel monitoring system, which is now linked to an office computer, enabling full fuel consumption analysis. The land around the excavation and construction site was then reinstated and the grass areas were re-seeded.
The outcome
The works were successfully completed to the full satisfaction of our client.
