Getting to know Greg Truby, Head of Protective Coatings

What was your background before joining Adler & Allan?

Before Adler & Allan, I worked for another business, responding to environmental incidents across the country. I enjoyed learning the practices and techniques associated with spill response incidents, working both onshore and offshore during my time. Travelling the country, contributing to the efficient clear up of incidents in all shapes and sizes was both exciting and rewarding.

How did you become Head of Protective Coatings at Adler & Allan?

I enjoyed several years working operationally to deliver coatings across Adler & Allan’s client base, watching our capabilities rapidly progress and investment made in innovative ideas as this service line continued to grow.

After many enjoyable years delivering the solutions we had built, starting a family prompted a change in role and I progressed from my direct labour role into Operations Manager. After several other role changes, learning as much as I could from around the business, I was given the opportunity to come full circle, back to focusing entirely on protective coatings as ‘Head of’.

What changes have you seen since being at Adler & Allan?

The ambition to grow feels like it is at its highest, seeing huge investment in equipment, vehicles and people. We have roles now that didn’t exist in the past which provide a new level of support to all the teams across the network.

What is your biggest achievement to date?

Family and career combined. After 18 years of service, I am proud of the role I have worked hard to achieve but also balancing this with my wife and I and our three sons, taking time for us to be a happy family together - that feels like a true achievement.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

We recently got an allotment which is quickly becoming a passion of mine. The time there is very relaxing and helps to decompress after stressful periods. Aside from the peace and tranquillity, it’s a great place for all the family to spend time together with something that is both educational, healthy and rewarding for the children.

What’s next for Greg in 2024?

A summer family holiday is first on the list to have that time together before the chaos of new school terms, especially with my second son also starting high school this year!

Within the protective coatings team, there is excitement in regard to ongoing investment, recruitment, training and just an all-round focus to help us keep growing towards our full potential.
